Taking time out is not selfish, it’s a necessity

Hi Team,

Happy Sunday!

I have been quiet on the blog and I plan to do a post very soon and share why.

i just thought I would jump on and do a quick PSA and remind you all of how important it is to take time out for yourself.

Listen to your body and if you need to switch off then do it!

Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it’s a priority.

Women who inspire – Kate Taylor

This month I’ve got to interview a special lady who is very close to my heart.

I have known Kate for almost 5 years now and interestingly enough we have never met!

We connected over social media and she inspires me on a daily basis.
She is an incredible woman, a wife, a mother, a business woman, a girl boss, a kind spirit and a great motivator!

Thank you Kate for sharing your tips with us this month….

What motivates you to get out of bed each day?

My daughter Emma who’s 18months old calling my name “Mummy” first thing in the morning is what usually wakes me up and having her pushes me to do what I do every day to be a good example for her too.

2. What is your biggest accomplishment to date?

I started my own business- TaylorCare Recruitment at 28 years old and 4 years on we are finally flourishing. We had a rocky year last year where we came to a cross roads with my business and we were faced with shutting down. Something in me just new it wasn’t time to give up. I dug deep and worked really hard while being a new mum to turned my business around. I looked at how my business was set up and if we could do things better. I restructured my role to be more the face of the business again rather than managing and my business is now going from strength to strength and hope to expand in 2017 again.

3. What are your top 5 must have items in the fridge or pantry?

Chobani Yogurt, Veggies/salad, ice-cream, Clean treats, Dark Lindt chocolate

 4. Who inspires you and why?

Many people inspire me but one person I’ve found inspire me in the journey of motherhood and business is Ashy Bines. The way she and expanded her brand and business since having a child is impressive. She encourages a health active lifestyle, I admire how she does it all and the staff she has around her too.

I also have a business mentor who runs her own recruitment business Sally Bartley the way she juggles business and mum life inspires me and is a role model for me to look up to as well.

 5. What are your favourites exercises and why?

I’ve just started a new Adult – Jazz, Funk & Hip Hop class its been great to relive my childhood of dance and challenge my body in a new way not just in the gym

I’ve also do Pilates once a week to build my core but increase strength and flexibility too. I also do a weights circuit class once a week too.

6. What is your favourite quote?

Oh I have so many its to hard to pick one… here are my favourite onces at the moment.

She turned her cant’s into cans and her dreams into plans

Dreams can come true with HARD work… PASSION and determination – Heather Stiilufsen

GIVE UP, GIVE IN or give all your have GOT! – Zig Ziglar

Success is not final, failure is not fatal; It is the courage to continue that counts – Billy Cox

7. What is your favourite way to relax?

Self-care is something I’m building into my busy life each weekend I try do something nice for myself usually nails or massage are my fav things to do.

 8. If you have had a bad day, how do you turn that around?

I usually look for ways to turn things around talk to a friend who can encourage me or look for positive affirmations/quotes to try and shake up how I’m feeling or even going to the gym helps too.

9. What are your must have beauty/health products and why?

The healthy Mummy Protein powder

 The healthy Mummy Greens Powder

 Clarins cleanser, serum and moisturiser

Finding your exercise mojo…… again.

Me right now 💁🏼🏆🥇
I have seen so many videos on routine, motivation and discipline when it comes to exercise .

Here are my tips .

1. Don’t set exercise goals on day 1 of your period .

2. Do make an agreement with yourself when to work out, for example if you prefer mornings go in the morning, don’t force yourself to go if you hate mornings!

3. If you struggle with getting it done, get yourself pumped up! Put on some awesome tunes before you’re due to go to the gym & before you know it you’ll be pumped and ready to sweat .

4. Watch what you eat, I notice when I am eating really well I have more energy and more energy = I want to work out .

5. Don’t deprive yourself! I am all about balance & moderation and I believe in reduction when it comes to food and alcohol. I don’t believe in elimination. If I eliminate I will binge

6. As corny as it sounds I believe in that saying, “work out because you love your body not because you hate it”. I’m a firm believer in exercising because I love my body I want to take good care of it and it’s not all about weight loss

What are your top tips?

Women Who Inspire – Tiffany Scanlon

Happy Saturday Team, can you believe it is almost April!?!

I point this out as I was fortunate enough to have Tiffany take the time to respond to some questions for my segment back in January and I am only posting her responses now!

Thanks for taking the time to chat with Stephsayssmile Tiffany and I am so grateful to feature a fellow Perth woman on the blog!

Over to Tiffany…

1. What motivates you to get out of bed each day?

The thought of new adventures and new experiences

2. What does your daily meal plan look like?
Usually wheatbix or vegemite on toast for breakfast, a sandwich of some sort for lunch, and a chicken and salad dish for dinner.

3. What are your top 5 must have items in the fridge or pantry?

CHOCOLATE!!! Coffee, vegemite, carrots, apples

 4. Who inspires you and why?

I follow a number of popular travel bloggers and I am so envious and in awe of their experiences and lifestyle.

 5. What are your favourites exercises and why?

I like to do High Intensity Interval Training using mostly my own body weight. I also enjoy skipping and some light weights or some yoga to mix it up. HIIT is very effective and time efficient and yoga is great for the mind and muscles.

6. What is your favourite quote?

“Everything will be alright in the end, if it’s not ok, it’s not the end”

 7. What is your favourite way to relax?

I like to do yoga or listen to guided meditation. I also find reading or watching a light hearted comedy very relaxing. Oh and a bubble bath, thats good too!

 8. If you have had a bad hair day, how do you turn that around?

Baby powder works wonders to soak up moisture and create volume! Otherwise into a bun it goes!

 9. What are your must have beauty products and why?

Paw-paw balm for lips, coconut oil for hair, moisturiser for skin, concealer for those under eye bags and acne!. I’m actually pretty bad with using beauty products. It wasn’t until recently that i started a beauty routine!

 10. Any last tips or advice for stephsayssmile followers on living a healthy and happy life?

Don’t wait for someone to give you permission to do what you want to do to be happy. It is OK to have dreams and to pursue those dreams. The only thing worse than failing, is failing to ever try. That applies to health, lifestyle, goals, relationships, everything. There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to happiness so try not to compare or seek answers in others journeys. We each have our own journey and our own purpose. It takes courage to pursue your dreams so be brave and don’t be afraid to try.

Women Who Inspire – Mille Aldridge

Hi Beautiful People!

I am so grateful to be kicking of my 2017 ‘Women Who Inspire ‘Segment with the amazing Millie Aldridge from I am lovable

Millie is a happiness coach and I could not think of a better person to kick of this segment again in 2017 – over to you Millie.

  1. What motivates you to get out of bed each day?

My passion to be the best version of myself and inspire, support and empower all women to do that same!

  1. What does your daily meal plan look like?

Over the past few years I have really learnt to listen to my body, so with that comes a different variety of food each day. I eat a lot of wholefoods and do not eliminate anything from my diet. I choose to love and respect my body which is why I often nourish it with high quality food as well as the occasional “sometimes food” (chocolate, ice cream, red wine.)

A general day would be:

Rice oats, coconut milk and banana

Coffee

Raw ball (I make them using dates and nuts)

Salad with spinach, avocado, carrot, beetroot, cucumber and a protein source

Rice cakes with peanut butter

Vegetables and protein

Dark chocolate!!

  1. What are your top 5 must have items in the fridge or pantry?

Zucchini, sweet potato, peanut butter, coconut oil and coffee!

  1. Who inspires you and why?

My Dad! He is so committed to being the best version of himself, constantly doing his own personal development. He is ALWAYS there to support anyone who asks him for help. His vibrant, loving and safe energy is contagious; people are literally drawn to him. His presence and smile lights up a room.

  1. What are your favourites exercises and why?

Again I listen to my body each day and ask it what its needs. Some days its something gentle like yoga, a beach walk or a swim in the pool, other days it’s a pump or combat class at the gym or a run outdoors. My favourite exercise is surfing (I just enjoy moving my body with no particular routine.)

I travel a lot so this is why I do not have a specific routine. I choose to move my body in a loving way each day and nourish it with healthy foods so that I can show up being the best version of myself!

  1. What is your favourite quote?

I made these three up last year and really live by them:

“Nothing is ever here to frustrate me, it is here to empower me.”

“Be CALM in the CHAOS.”

“You can have it all, just not all at once!”

7. What is your favourite way to relax?

Go to the sauna, beach swim, lay in the sun, read a book, meditate or listen to music.

  1. If you have had a bad day, how do you turn that around?

I do not judge anything as good or bad; there are days where I feel uncomfortable and in those moments is when I learn the most. I remind myself that everything happens for a reason. I take some quiet time on my own to feel my feelings whether that’s deep breathing, crying, screaming into a pillow, going for a run or a swim in the ocean. I then journal and reflect to help let go and move forward. I also make a list of what I am grateful for. Having an attitude of gratitude helps you to attract more things into your life to be grateful for. SMILING also helps to change your state and raise your vibration, you can’t be angry or frustrated and smile at the same time.

  1. What are your must have beauty products and why?

Coconut oil, you can use it for everything, your hair, skin, mouth wash etc and there are no toxins in it which is what I focus on, eliminating all toxic products in my house hold. I use SUKIN ORGANIC shampoo and conditioner and occasionally buy there face wash (I mostly wash my face with water!) I also use doTERRA essential oils as my perfume, they are all natural products so not nasty toxins that effect your hormones or anything. They help to lift your mood and they smell AMAZING!!

  1. Any last tips or advice for stephsayssmile followers on living a healthy and happy life?

Make sure you work on yourself in all areas of your life, your physical health, mental health and emotional health because they are all connected!

Do not rely on someone or something outside of you to make you happy. When you focus on your inner happiness everything around you will begin to shift. If you want anything around you to change you first must go within and make a change.

Reach out for support! If you are struggling with constant negative thoughts, you have an unhealthy relationship with food or body image issues, you lack confidence or often feel anxious then you’re not alone and you can overcome this simply by getting professional help.

Trust yourself and do not give your power away to others by blaming them or becoming a victim. You create the whole of your own reality. When we stop seeking validation or answers from others, we step into our true goddess power. When we begin to trust ourselves and listen to the guidance from within, then we begin to create the life of our dreams!

Do what makes YOU happy!

Hi friends and happy Friday!

If you have followed me on social media for awhile now you would know that ‘doing what makes YOU happy’ is something I am very passionate about.

It’s okay to say no to people, no to friends, no to family, no to your work colleagues.

It’s easy to get caught up in pleasing other people before putting your own needs first.

Remember that putting yourself first and your happiness first is not selfish, it is a priority.

If your friends ask you to go to a movie, concert, or an event that doesn’t interest it’s okay to say no and NOT feel bad.

Back in the day I used to feel guilty about saying no to things and felt I was letting people down or being a bad friend.

Over the last few years I’ve realised that it is okay to say no to things that don’t interest me.
It’s ok to put my needs and my priorities first, as my happiness is just as important as anyone else’s.

Your true friends and true loved ones will accept you just as you are, always remember that.

Don’t feel guilty for saying no to something that doesn’t bring you joy or happiness.

Your feelings matter and you matter, never forget that!!

Happy Friday
